Not a feed. You pick a window that fits the evening. Materials roll into one list. When the glue dries, you take a picture so the make does not vanish into the recycling.
People search “step by step crafts for kids” because they want a sequence, not a mood board. Crafty is that sequence on iOS: gather, walk the steps, photograph the finish. The phone is a recipe card. The work is on the table.
Onboarding asks how long you have. About thirty minutes — a weeknight, after dinner, before bed — or a Saturday, with time to spread out and make something that lasts. Crafty starts you on one free project that actually fits.
Materials from the projects you queued become a single shopping list. Check things off as you find them in the cupboard. Members can open an Amazon cart when the list has links. Grocery, drugstore, recycling first. The list exists because sometimes you need glue.
Take a picture when you are done. It lives on your studio shelf, and becomes a card you can send. Until you share it, the photo stays with the household.
Same app, two starting points. “With kids” is a household project: steps stay honest and short. “Just me” is quiet making at your own pace. Either way, the adult keeps scissors, knives, ovens, glass, and hot glue. That is not a disclaimer at the bottom. It is how the instructions are written.
Open the app and you are not dropped into an infinite grid. You get this week’s issue — a small set of projects, a date range, and a note that one is free. Search if you already know the material. Filter by Family, Home & Decor, Paper, Wood & Nature, Seasonal, Textile & Fiber, Wearables, or Upcycle if you know the shelf.
If a make is already in progress, a banner takes you back to the current step. Heart a project and it waits in Studio. Start one and it lives on the bench. The catalog still has earlier free projects and member shelves; the week is simply what we put first.
A make opens on Gather. You see the materials with quantities you can check off. Then the steps: a title, a short description, a picture when we have one. Back and next. The screen stays awake so you are not unlocking the phone with glue on your hands.
You can have Crafty read the current step aloud. Turn it off when the room is already loud. After you read, put the phone face-down. The next tap is when you need the next instruction — not a reason to keep scrolling.
Member projects do not hide the premise. Materials and the first step stay open. The rest of the make is for members. Free projects — typically one in the week — walk all the way through. Free projects stay open.
Studio is in progress, saved, and finished. Finish a project and the camera is there: take a photo or pick one from the library. Add a line if you want — who helped, the light in the room. Send a card, or don’t. The shelf is yours either way.
That photograph is the keepsake when the paper comes down in January. It is also how a weeknight make survives until Monday, when someone asks what you did.
After you join, Crafty will tell you how to add the widget. Long-press the Home Screen, tap +, search Crafty, and add This week. Small or medium on the Home Screen; a compact version on the Lock Screen if you want it there. If a project is on the bench, the widget says so. Tap it and you go back to the make.
